Doggie Dishwasher and a new shop in town

Today has been a little busy.
I have been getting a couple of display boards ready for our social evening on thursday. I have also returned some equipment that we borrowed at the weekend and made some phone calls to firm up the itinerary and allocation of tasks.
After popping to the shops, I then started some baking. here is my new dishwasher!
This is Sammie-was-foster-dog-now forever-YD's dog! She thought he had developed some sort of ecema (how DO you spell it?) and then realised it was dried cake mix!
While in town I popped into Sainsburys for some cooking margarine and noticed this pack of "cooking" bacon for £1.10p. It is four thick bacon chops and a couple of bits. I cooked them all once I had opened the packet. The two larger chops we had with potato rosti from a couple of large potatoes from the garden, some scrummy, ripe, homegrown tomatoes and a couple of our eggs.

The extra bacon, which I have now frozen, will go into a quiche at the weekend.
I called into a new shop in town (Ripley) called Boyse. I am very pleased to see a new shop opening as so many have closed. This shop sells all sorts of hardware and soft furnishings  and...fabric!!!! Not a lot to choose from at the moment, but the assistants tell me that there has been a surprising amount of interest in this, so who knows?. There is also a pretty good haberdashery section, so I'm well pleased. I bought some material to complete a certain Christmas task and a few squares of felt for another.
A warm Derbyshire welcome to new follower, Mickle in New  Zealand, who is also a cat lover. I'm also  pleased to welcome Pam from a Good Life in Tydd as a follower. She and I have been reading each other's blogs while believing we were following each other! I guess I need to sort out this sort of thing so that I don't miss those blogs that I have been reaching by "blog-jumping" from other favourite blogs. Crikey, another thing to sort for the new year.
Off to join D. and some friends at the pub -I'd rather stay in the warm really, as it has dropped cold this week. All the extra curtains are now up and extra blankets on beds.
keep warm dear Frugal friends

  4. Thank you for your lovely welcome. I'm currently in between cats as my darling Zebby Cat "went to the bridge" in August. Another rescue cat, a little 4 year old tabby girl named Megs, comes to live here in January. A 4 year old will be a bit of a shock after 17/18 year old mancat Zebby.

I've never come across bacon chops here but I do always have a supply a bacon in the freezer.

    Sending care and huggles,

    Michelle/Mickle

    1. She should keep you on your toes. Our Dixie is about eight - we are not sure as she too is a rescue cat.
We are fond of bacon. I think I could give up any meat but that.

  5. I get my sis to get cooking bacon from Morrisons (I don't go in there if I can help it..too expensive on most things), it's usally around 85p. I do find that a lot of the time, the bacon is incredibly salty, so I soak it over night in a litlle milk and water, then drain it off, pat dry with a clean cloth and cook as required.
I love a good quiche, home made of course.xx

    1. You are right most cheap bacon can be salty and hold quite a bit of water.
This lot was smoked and not too watery.
Good idea re the soaking though

  6. I think cooking bacon is a well kept secret, such an inexpensive way to buy bacon. I try to squish the bag around to see what I'm getting, sometimes it's smoked (with a yellowy colour) or mixed, sometimes a couple of big pieces. My husband likes bacon and cabbage, so it's a treat for him.

    1. Yes, I did quite a bit of squishing myself before I alighted on this packet. It is smoked too, which I prefer.

  7. Thankyou for the squash info, we've now brought them indoors. I'm worried that too many people now know about the bacon bits!
i've also discovered that I wasn't following blogs that I was regularly reading so am adding myself to lots.

  8. Wow, you've inspired me - I'm back blogging after umpty-something months. And aren't potato rosti wonderful to make and eat.

Useful hint - if you have a potato ricer use it to squish liquid out of grated raw veggies and fruit like potatoes, courgette/zucchini and apples when you want to use them in fritters, rosti/hash browns etc.... saves on tea towel washing and needs way less wrist and hand strength!

    Happy cooking and eating, Michelle/Mickle

    1. So glad you are returning to blogging - we all ahve something to say that is of value to others.
I have a ricer, but it is a very old one and is the devil's own job to get it clean and dry , so that it doesn't rust. I think I should buy a new one and then I would make Rosti more often I am sure. I quite fancy a mixed root veg rosti.

    1. He certainly was. I think I indulge him more than I should because he is a rescue dog and still quite new to us ( well YD actually, as he doesn't live here, but with her)
Sometimes you can get really lucky with the rashers can't you?

  10. I caught my late dog, stood on the door of the dishwasher licking plates, when my back was turned clearing the table. I use cooking bacon often too.

    1. Hi Sal - ON the door tee hee. I've seen the dogs sidle up and have a crafty lick at the dishwasher, but never to actually stand on the door. not very subtle!!

  12. Probably! I started writing about the day yesterday and was going to finish it today. They were not sure if it was going to be on last night or over the next few days up to remembrance day. I didn't watch tele last night as it was the re-dedication of the memorial. I'll try to get it on catch up. Hope I wasn't too bad as I didn't realise that this reporter was wanting to take film as the reporter before was from Radio Derby.!
