Bleary-eyed Frugal

Hello Fellow Frugallers and readers of this somewhat random blog of mine
A Very Happy New Year to you all from a somewhat bleary-eyed Derbyshire Frugeller. I didn't get to bed until 2 o'clock this morning and I'm not quite as up to dancing the night away as I used to be.      A particularly Happy New Year to new Google followers Lynn Lewis and Kim Cranson  and Lynn Gill and FrugalWench on Blog Lovin.                                                                                                           Many thanks for your comments on my last post. The consensus is that I ought to give my daughters some of the items now, while writing down as many memories as possible. So I will pass on the little things and leave notes with the bigger things (crockery and the like)

Just been over to Simple Suffolk Smallholder's blog and she mirrors my intentions (again!) There were a number of similarities with that which I was going to post, one of which is to start using my husband's name in this blog.. You know that I am Gill, so why not that my husband "D" is David. (first guess is right Sue)
I  have always referred to him on this blog as D. not being the type to refer to him as The beloved or Mr Wonderful or handsome Hunk or .Light of my Life...or.. you get the idea... not quite how we are really. Comfortable with each other since we met when he was fifteen and a half and I was fourteen. (54 years ago)
Here are the culprits who kept me up last night. David and I with our daughters and granddaughters. When I see my girls together I feel like I've won some sort of  lottery!
The cousins dancing the Gay Gordons
Enough for now, off to play with my sewing machine.
Back Soon

  1. Oh! I guessed the right name, how weird is that! Like you I couldn't write about Dearly Beloved or Gorgeous Guy or Wonderful Hubby. Just sounds too silly. I often tell him he is the most comfortable person I could ever live with!

    1. "Comfortable" will do me, covers all bases of a relationship.
He is always David, never Dave.

  2. I used to dread having to dance the Gay Gordons when I was small. I would dread it even more now!

    1. I haven't put the pic up of me doing the Gay Gordons... I'm a delicate shade of magenta. Good fun though. I had to dance the whole set (barn dance etc) as I was one of only two people in the room who knew the steps!

  3. Happy New Year to you and your family. I don't reveal my family names because I want to protect their identity/innocence

    1. I 'm not using the children/grandchildren's names either. If they want me to I will. But David doesn't mind at all.
Happy New year Carol to you and your family from me and mine.

  4. I remember having to practice the Gay Gordons at middle school, I hated it because as a 12 year old I was taller than most of the boys !!! I don't like all that Light of my life stuff either, that's why hubby is Mr Twigs on my blog.

    1. I was dancing the GGs with my eldest girl and because I knew the steps I led. She is taller than I so I was jumping up a bit too. Mind you I'm tall also and hated dance at school for the same reason as you. Do you remember someone coming up to you at a dance and asking for a dance and you sizing them up thinking" You are not going to want me to stand up"

  6. Happy New Year, and thanks for the mention!

I call my husband OH (other half) on my blog because his employers are apt to search for anything online about their employees to look for the slightest signs of them being up to no good, so he keeps himself off social media and that. Paranoid? Afraid not... As it happens a select number of his work colleagues do read my blog, but we can trust them... I hope! But I have gone the route of unlinking to my business site or anything with my name on, just to make it all a tad harder for them.

    1. Crikey! How unpleasant for him.
I hope you are able to keep your anonymity. Us being retired, it doesn't matter too much really.
Happy New year FW am over to have a peek at your blog now.

  7. I loved the gay gordons. The word 'gay' today has a completely different connotation to that of 30 years ago. Gay and Gordon in the same sentence.......heaven help us. Lol.

    1. Great dance..though pretty energetic.
re the connotation with the term. There was a right "two and eight" about a blogger posting a recipe for faggots a while back, with someone believing it was offensive to gay people. My friends who are gay have no problem with either.

  9. What a night you must have had! I'm afraid I went to bed at 10pm feeling rough (from cold not alcohol!) and awoke when the dust had settled. Lovely family photos, Gill x

  11. Re the niger seed - we find that the goldfinches and greenfinches are the ones who eat it. Agree about the hens (and the pheasants) who hover under the feeders waiting for anything which drops - the blackbirds too. As for mealworms, I really think that the robins would kill for them.

  12. You have a beautiful family, Gill :) I can't imagine staying up dancing until 2am! Well done, you, hahahahaha!

Happy New Year to you all XO

  13. I think you made a good decision. The notes on the other items is an excellent idea. There'll come a time when someone will wonder about the history behind an item. That's the kind of thing that shouldn't be lost.

I have to mention that you have a lovely family. What a blessing!
