"Three Girls". What did you think?

Oh My!
Anyone else here been watching "Three Girls"? If so, what did you think?
My granddaughter and I have been watching it and believe it to be very well done, though not an easy watch.

    1. Tough watch. Great acting. Worth trying to catch it when you can Cro.

    2. My wife later said that she'd watched it. We discussed it in the car.

  2. A harrowing watch but brilliantly done. Unfortunately it is still rife and still being ignored.

    1. Exploitation of young innocents has happened for all time, but this is particularly shocking. Today's Derby Evening Telegraph reports of nine men being charged with grooming and sexual abuse. There are no further details, but it sounds a remarkably similar case to one in Derby reported at the same time as the Rochdale case.

  3. I think it was very well done and had me tied to the screen. I am appalled at how Sarah the sexual health worker was treated after the trial.

  4. I watched it and the interview on the news this morning, its dreadful to think so many young innocent lives were destroyed and the police and social services turned there backs on them.

    1. Agreed. The early police interviews were appalling as was the SW interview which only saw the unborn baby as a child. What also never seems to be mentioned is how neighbours and members of the public are cautious about challenging or reporting too.

  5. My husband and I watched it. I'm almost ashamed to say that we used to live near Rochdale before we moved to Wales. I knew it would be compelling if only for the performance by Maxine Peake; she is an incredible actress but the young girls portraying the victims were excellent. It is appalling that because children come from the wrong sort of families, as some people saw it, they are not credited with being entitled to treatment better than dogs. Sara and her team were amazing with their tenacity but even that was greatly ignored at times. I also thought Paul Kaye was fantastic - he is much better as a serious actor than when in comedy mode.

  6. Yes, Paul Kaye was good wasn't he? If I was going to give an award for best actor from the play I would struggle to choose.

  7. Two girls, three dogs and a chicken - is what I thought you were talking about from your header! No, I haven't seen the Rochdale version. I think it would be too depressing...

    1. IT WAS depressing, though in the end the guys got their " come uppance" which, as it was a true story, was satisfying. I thought it exceptionally well acted too.

  8. I watched the beginning but couldn't cope with the rape, so switched off, but my daughter watched it as she thought it was necessary for her job, which is with young people.

    1. Your daughter is so right. It was very true to life and certainly helped those working with young people towards an understanding of the vulnerability of young women. I suspect it will be used for training purposes in the future.

  9. It was shocking how easily the girls slipped through so many cracks in our public systems. Agree Paul Kaye was good. Ex Emmerdale/Mandy Dingle was almost unrecognizable as the mum of the 2 sisters - she not only played the part well so physically looked the right too. Wish I thought "attitudes" to vulnerable young people had changed.

  10. I gained a little hope from that mothers' attempt at improved engagement with her children over the years and found her very believable.
