Grandslaves and Reynard strikes

Hello All
Here I am again a couple of weeks since I last posted. The time has flown by and much has happened and been achieved, especially in the vegetable gardens, which are now looking pretty good. David has nearly finished the pallet-wood fence, which will keep the dogs off the gardens and tidies up between two spaces
.Here is one of the reasons we have started to get on top of the gardens... grandchildren!

I have questions about two bloggers-
Does anybody know why I am no longer following Frugal Queen? Have I missed some change?
More importantly, where has the lovely Weaver gone? She normally posts daily, but hasn't done so for well over a week. Her wonderful posts are missed.

When we were in Cornwall for a spot of sea fishing the blasted fox paid us a call. He dug his way through our (substantial) defences and slaughtered 13 hens. My granddaughter, who was looking after the smallholding, found them on her morning rounds. I feel so sorry for her, it must have been an awful sight! We have spent many hours beefing up the fencing and have changed how we lock up at night to add an extra layer of defence. Fortunately the hens have been in the orchard run and not ranging over the whole holding for three weeks as the gardens are being planted up or it could have been even worse.
If anybody tells me that foxes have to live I will not be responsible for my language!
Just been out to gloat over the veggie gardens (the rest are in an awful state) and see that the b****y rabbits have trimmed the early pea row!
Need to go out and net the peas now.. back soon.

P.S I have been nominated for the leibster award thingy. Hope there is not a time restriction on responding, which I will do soon.

  1. I wondered myself about Frugal Queen, no idea what happened she seems to have just vanished?
Same with the Weaver of Grass, I usually keep up with he blog and see her commenting on many of the other blogs I visit but haven't seen her for a while, I do hope all is well.

Sorry to hear about your hens, I hope it didnt shake up your granddaughter too much, I think the worst part of livestock is deadstock. I am not my Foxes greatest fan either, you'd think if he's all that hungry he could have done you a favour and eaten the sodding rabbits! peeing around the chicken run is supposed to deter them, allegedly better for a male to do it. failing that you can buy dried lion poo that scares them away and the scent stays for a while before you need to scatter some more around. I think they call it Silent Roar?

    1. Answer below to Frugal Queen's disappearance from those of us who don't pay attention!
re Weaver, she has been on holiday - how dare she without telling us! I guess it was a security thing that meant she could broadcast it. Glad she is back and well.
The rabbits had chewed through part of our defenses, which had given the fox a start on the way in. It's conspiracy!!! I shall direct all the males who visit to the fence, we don't have too many lions calling! I'm told that llama-type creatures will chase a fox off too

Perhaps you migh be eating rabbit recipes a bit more or feeding them (cooked)to the dogs and cats?

I seem to remember that Froogs was going to some other blog place but, can't remember which, maybe Face book?
Can I borrow your grand children? lol!

    1. So far all the rabbits we have seen have been little ones (those our cat Dixie hasn't eaten that is) they take some skinning at that size!
I'm not sure the grandchildren want to do anymore Tee hee. xx

  4. If anyone knows Weaver's actual postal address, perhaps they could write for news. Not like her to keep silent for so long!

I once also lost a whole run-full of hens to a fox (about 20), so I know how you must have felt. If they only took ONE and left the others alive, we wouldn't feel to angry.

    1. They are aren't they? They will always lend a hand if we ask them, and often when we don't.
The little one has her own toolkit!

  8. Thank you for your kind comments Frugal. I am here. First of all my broadband connection went down, then we went on an eight day cruise to The Netherlands and Belgium (River cruising the Amstel and the Rhine) and now we are back and the Broadband is sketchy so I am managing a few replies while it lasts.
