Gay Gardening - the book.

Hello Again.
It has been sometime since my last post (that sounds like "It has been some time since my last confession"!) I'm getting worse instead of better at this blogging.
I have been reading blogs however and keeping up with what is going on in blogland.
I hope you like my title.. almost worthy  of John Gray I reckon.
This refers to one of the books given to me at Christmas by DF, the friend that I knitted the dishcloth for. ( I blogged about this 17th January)
Here are the books he gave me. They are all second hand as is our agreement (to spend as little as possible)
The John Seymour book speaks for itself and a great read it is too.
To the fore of this is 100 Sandwich Varieties, published in the mid 1930s. I intend to share some of the "recipes" with you.
To the top right is Mrs Rundell's Domestic Cookery - "formed upon principle of economy and adapted to the use of private families" Published 1861. The opening para says " In every rank, those  deserve the greatest praise, who best acquit themselves of the duties which their station requires"
This book actually has some good recipes and some great advice about being a good woman.
The fourth book belonged to DF's mama and is about the arrangement of beds, planning herbivorous borders etc "written with an ease and cheerful  enthusiasm which will match the mood of the veteran and inspire the novice "
Quick post today as I need to rush off to the fodder rooms. The hens are SO hungry at the moment.
I also need to pick up some sugar so that I can make some more marmalade.
Welcome to Beth on Bloglovin
Back Soon.

I have just seen those animals push that black guy off the train and chant their pride at being racist. I am SO upset and angry. I hope they find them and throw the book at them, the b*****ds.

  4. I can not abide any form of racism or anti anyone group behaviour. I may not agree with some groups but as long as nobody is hurt physically or emotionally they are within their rights to have their beliefs. I have not seen or heard about it but it does not surprise me.

    1. There seems to be a general outrage, so I hope that something is done to punish their behaviour.

    1. I'm trying to make space on the shelves in "my" room as they are sort of ref. books for me to use. I'll have a re-jiggle and post a pic.

  8. Agree with your last paragraph - sometimes it makes one almost ashamed to be British.
As to the rest of your post - what a good idea to have an agreement about cost and presents - makes life so much easier.

    1. He always buys my pressies from a charity shop and wraps them in newspaper!. I always wrap his (homemade) pressie in re-cycled paper from the previous Christmas for him - the more wrinkled the better. It's all part of our fun

  9. I love the title of the gardening book, fab. I totally agree with you regarding the football fans, it's like going back to the 70s and 80s again, totally abhorrent.

    1. Good isn't it?
Abhorrent is a good word for this. I do think that we seem to be going backward in some ways.

  10. Like you I was incensed to hear about the football supporters behaving so outrageously. I feel very ashamed to be even vaguely associated with them. But please do not categorise them as animals, that is insulting to animals. These dreadful people are worse than any animal I know of!!

  11. Unfortunately , all we ever hear over here, for years, is the bad stuff about British soccer fans. It was on the news first thing this morning. Disgusting! Love the old books your friend gave you. I bet there are some really good recipes and advice.

  12. It's simply amazing that those Chelsea fans seemed so proud of themselves. No doubt a slap on the wrist awaits them.

    1. The outrage over here seems genuine and I hope it will inspire the authorities to give them more than a slap on the wrist. Last I heard Scotland yard was looking into the incident. At the very least the scumbags should be done for Racism and Assault. Yes, they were proud weren't they?
