Thanks Weaver and Parsnip

Hello bloggy friends, especially  Pat "The Weaver of Grass" and .Angry Parsnip of "Two Little Square Black Dogs"
Earlier in the year Parsnip, who lives in the Sonoran Desert (North USA) sent Weaver who lives in Yorkshire Dales some multi-coloured carrot seed. Weaver can't grow carrots in her soil so sent them on to me.
Here is the first pulling...

The reddy/purply ones are different in size and shape and I was surprised to see are only that colour on the outside (what do I know about these things?!) I peeled the big carrots but just scrubbed these little ones.
Here they are ready to cook with tonight's dinner....

I won't post this until we have tasted them and I can give you my verdict.

Just tasted them and the orange and red ones taste as I expect carrot to taste, the yelloe one is a little bit swedie and the white one is a little bit turnippy, both with overtones of carrot.
Very Very Tasty.
 Thanks Weaver and Parsnip xx

  1. I have just switched on and this was the first thing I saw. I have been wondering whether they grew or not, so was really interested in your success. Glad you enjoyed them.

    1. I waited until the first picking before I showed them as they could have been carrot-fly'd and not looking too good!

  2. Oh how exciting !
So happy they grew for you. They are from the Hudson Valley Seed Library. They are preserving and developing varieties of vegetables. Also a fabulous catalog with lots of different seeds.
I am growing some in a pot so I am not sure they will ever "grow" like they were in the ground.
So happy that they taste like carrots !

Thank you for all you kind words about Watson
    cheers, parsnip

  5. A lovely colourful veg, I have tried the multi coloured ones before I think they were called Cosmic Rainbow, and they all tasted like carrots, it just makes it more interesting to have them multi coloured rather than just orange :-)

  9. Oh my, what a beautiful veggie dish they make! My soil is kind of heavy so my carrots are usually spindly. Good soil makes for good carrots.

    1. Good soil, without any too fresh organic matter.
They certainly brightened up the meal.
