Bookshelves and my Quilt

Hello All
Many thanks for all your comments on my last post. I still have a few to answer, which I will do a.s.a.p.
A warm welcome to Kathy Allstot on Bloglovin.
Sue - from Simplesuffolksmallholder has been showing pictures of her bookshelves. They are really interesting and VERY tidy and organised. They demonstrate that she is a retired librarian (and a smallholder) Other bloggers have joined in and they are ALSO tidy. I have told Sue that I will post pictures of some of my less-than (to say the least) tidy bookshelves.
Here are the bookshelves in "my" room. This room, which is next to the kitchen is always warm as our parrot Percy lives here. I have my lap top in here, a TV, my knitting bag, portable sewing machine and most of the Civic Society stuff too. At the moment the incubator is plugged in here too.- in the bottom right hand corner in this pic.
Here is the other side of the window. I couldn't get the bottom row of books in shot of either of these shelves because of stuff in front.

Here are the bookshelves in our "main" lounge. I suspect Sue will need to lie down in a darkened room after looking at this! I promise that I won't show you any more of my shelves, but hope that other bloggers who are  untidy and cluttered  will feel that they could be worse after looking at these pics!
As you may remember my eldest granddaughter has started quilting. I helped her with her first quilt before Christmas.Apparently her mother helped her with her second quilt before Christmas and here it is .. it was for me!!! My favourite colour and with farmyard animal print included.

Every evening I sit knitting or hand sewing while I watch TV with this quilt on my lap, thinking how lucky I am to have such a thoughtful granddaughter.
Tomorrow I shall have said granddaughter's dog for doggie-day-care. Coda is a large yellow lab. He is three and a half years old and beset with health problems. he has arthritis, allergies and is accident prone. We reckon that he is the most expensive dog ever! He is also the sweetest natured, funny, lovable dog and worth every penny. I was so upset today to read that Cro's dog, Monty, who is so like Coda in every way has had to be put to sleep. I just sat and cried feeling for Cro and his wife and their other dog, Bok and for me and mine too as we know that Coda will never be an old dog either.
Enough for now I'm off to print some stuff for an important meeting we have here tomorrow night.
Take care all
Gillx

  1. I love the quilt and that it is from your grand daughter. My daughter made each of her grandmothers a flannel tie blanket, with the school colors on alternate sides. Both used for chilly soccer and football games, track meets, and baseball games. When mom and dad passed away, she inherited her gift back, along with all the memories.

  2. Gill, I'm very sorry to hear that your Coda is also having health problems. I've always believed that it's so much easier to have mongrels than pure breeds; they seem much less prone to illness etc. But there's a very good reason why Lab's are so popular, and will continue to be so.

Your (and Sue's) bookshelves put mine to shame..... Shambles; I must reorganise.

  3. What a lovely quilt you received from your very talented grand daughter. She obviously takes after you! Dogs break your heart but they bring so much pleasure.

    1. You can't not have an animal because you might be upset when it is ill/dies can you?

  4. Some-One with bookcases like mine I am not alone, mine are disorganised but thats part of the fun, when looking for a book I spy something else that takes my eye, the only books that are sorted are craft books in the cabin and cookery books in the kitchen, The quilt is lovely what a fantastic gift :-)

    1. I often go "off piste" when looking for a book. Like you most of my cookery books are in the kitchen ( and I am definitely not sharing a picture of them!)

  5. Yep, my bookshelves usually look like that, I had a big declutter of books the other day but it won't be long before they return to their usual chaotic mess.

How lovely to have a quilt made by your granddaughter. For me, that is what quilts are about, something made with love to keep you warm.

    1. She also made one for her partner's grandmother, who was SO pleased with it and convinced that he has made a good choice of girlfriend.

  6. Love your quilt but the bookshelf pics are no good! Not close enough to see the titles!

    1. And they look so interesting too. My shelves were a lot less tidy before we had the extension built and put them in the hall way where they can be seen all the time when we and anyone else goes back and forth between kitchen and living room

  7. Ah books! My bookshelves are a lot sparser than this time last year, had a good clear-out and took them to the charity shop I sometimes work in, 'ExtraCare'.
The quilt is lovely and fresh looking, well done that girl on two counts, 1, keeping it a secret and 2, doing such a grand job!

    1. I really struggle to give books away. I do buy from CSs and usually return those though.
I'm surprised she kept the secret as she is not too good at secrets!

  8. So pleased to see that lovely quilt - do hope she keeps up the quilting. You must be thrilled to bits. Yes, I was sad about Cro's dog too - we keep pets at our peril really don't we?

    1. She is about to have a go at dress making, but still has material for quilting, so I do hope so

  9. The quilt is beautiful, your grandaughter is obviously very talented. It's lovely when the younger generation takes an interest in these sort of skills so that they will continue. It's very sad when we lose our pets as I know only too well, they become one of the family so it's easy to see why we love them so much.

    1. She is a little concerned as I photographed "the worst wonky bit" as she calls it. I have promised her that I will do a pic of the lovely corner that she struggled to master!

  11. What a treasure that quilt is! Your room is a perfect place for it, and what a perfectly cozy room it is. It's very hard when animals have a lot of health problems. We do our best but it still hurts when their lives come to the end. Hopefully Coda has many more good years.

    1. We have our fingers crossed for Coda. Unfortunately she can no longer get health insurance for him, because of his history. he is such a lovely boy.
I think "cosy" too, others might think "untidy" !

  12. Phew! I was beginning to think it was just my shelves that were a bit disorganised - thank you for putting my mind at ease! .....that sounds kind of rude, but I done mean it that way. I have too many books and too little space so they are all piled up at different angles and double, or sometimes treble thickness. For someone who is normally a hit anal about tidiness, I kind if like it!! Love the quilt too - would have loved someone to help me with my first attempt.
